PSPA Charity Evening 2024

On Friday 5th July 2024, we will be sponsoring a special charity fundraising event that is being put on by one of our venue co-founders, Brian Sangwin, at the Hockley Community Centre. The gig will be featuring live music from 'The Beached Boys', who will be performing music by The Beach Boys and Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. There will also be a raffle. All proceeds from this event will be going to the PSP Association (PSPA) to help them fund research into Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association (PSP).

The PSP Association is a charity which is very close to Brian, and our, hearts. Earlier this year, Brian's partner Janet was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) at the UCLH Neurological Dept at Queens Square, London. It has been a long journey for Janet, which started eight years ago, when she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. This is a common misdiagnosis for people with PSP, and it has taken five years of tests, medication changes and endless hospital appointments for her to get confirmation of a diagnosis of PSP.

PSP is a rare and debilitating neurological disease, which currently has no effective treatment or cure. The disease impacts balance, movement, vision and speech. People with PSP regularly have falls, have difficulty swallowing, are liable to choke, have speech and communication problems, have eye problems, have muscle rigidity and are in constant pain.

After her diagnosis, Janet was asked if she would join ‘The Prospect Research Program’ to which she agreed without any hesitation. Although this program may be of little or no benefit to Janet, it will hopefully help others in the future who have this disease. Better research into this disease may also help make discoveries into Parkinson’s and other similar degenerative brain conditions leading to better and more effective treatments and ultimately a cure.

Please come to this event to enjoy a great evening of live music and help support a very important charity.
